Singapore 96-Hour Visa-Free Transit Facility (VFTF): Complete Guide for Indian Travellers
Singapore 96-Hour Visa-Free Transit Facility (VFTF): Complete Guide for Indian Travellers
Singapore offers a Visa-Free Transit Facility (VFTF) that allows eligible transit passengers to enter the country without applying for a regular visa and stay for up to 96 hours (4 days). This facility is useful for travellers who have a long layover in Singapore and wish to explore the city.
However, VFTF is not available to everyone and is granted only if all eligibility conditions are met.
What is VFTF?
VFTF (Visa-Free Transit Facility) is a special transit arrangement provided by Singapore, under which certain categories of foreign nationals may be allowed to enter Singapore without a visa, strictly for transit purposes, for a maximum period of 96 hours.
This facility is not a tourist visa and cannot be extended.
Are Indian Nationals Eligible for VFTF?
Yes, Indian nationals may be eligible for Singapore’s 96-hour VFTF, subject to specific conditions.
Eligibility is not automatic, and travellers must satisfy all requirements at the time of arrival.
Eligibility Conditions for Indian Passport Holders
Indian nationals can be considered for VFTF only if they meet all of the following conditions:
1. Transit Requirement
The traveller must be in transit to or from a third country, for example:
India → Singapore → Third Country
or
Third Country → Singapore → India
Singapore must not be the final destination.
2. Confirmed Onward Ticket
A confirmed onward air or sea ticket departing Singapore within 96 hours of arrival is mandatory.
3. Valid Third-Country Visa or Residence Permit
Travellers must hold a valid visa or long-term residence permit issued by one of the following countries:
- United States of America
- United Kingdom

- Australia
- New Zealand
- Japan
- Schengen countries (such as Germany or Switzerland)
The visa or permit must be valid for at least one month from the date of entry into Singapore.
4. Mode of Departure

Important Rules to Note
- ❌ Extension of stay under VFTF is strictly not allowed
- ❌ VFTF cannot be converted into a tourist or long-term visa
- 👮 Final approval is at the discretion of Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers
- ✅ All travellers must meet Singapore’s prevailing entry requirements
Failure to meet any condition may result in denial of entry, even if the traveller was previously eligible.
Who Else May Be Eligible Under VFTF?
Apart from Indian nationals, VFTF may also be available to certain categories of travellers from:
- Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS)
- Georgia
- Turkmenistan
- Ukraine
- Specific categories of nationals from the People’s Republic of China
Eligibility criteria may vary by nationality.
